Ekinoid: Frame Model Gallery

This is the latest of the three models, finished in June 2011. This was essentially a proof-of-concept regarding the structural viability of the design: we wanted to look at the issues involved in constructing the three floors using a flexible material - e.g., wire/rope - instead of solid steel bars/girders ... so we used three bicyle wheels (which have great strength in one plane) around the central column (set at 90 degrees to the three wheels/floors) , took out the spokes and substituted a bonded nylon thread (using the original lacing patterns). Then we connected all three to the eight hemispherical steel ribs, and joined these eight ribs using two steel plates at the top and bottom.
